Some people believe that the increasing business and culture between different countries is a positive phenomenon. However, others believe that this could lead to a loss of national identities.
Please discuss both views and give your opinion.
Introduction
In this day and age, citizens of the world undoubtedly live in a global village due to the advances in telecommunications, transportation and media technologies. This improved interaction between inhabitants of various nations has enhanced business and cultural bonds, proving to be a mainly positive development for the majority of stakeholders.
Body
With increasingly robust cooperation between multinational companies and the growing phenomenon of these corporations establishing headquarters and manufacturing facilities in assorted countries, residents from all over the world have the opportunity to enjoy their products and services. With the advent of globalization, there are also a larger quantity of employment opportunities available, not to mention increased trade, allowing greater free flow of products with reduced tariffs, serving to increase the standard of living of citizens in all corners of the globe.
On the contrary, traditional cultures are being threatened due to the influx of international corporations and their ever-growing presence in our daily lives. Foreign media has infiltrated people’s lives, especially youngsters who are surrounded by Western TV shows and movies, influencing their behaviour and thinking. Nowadays, individuals eat the same foods, wear similar clothing and maintain comparable lifestyles, leading to monotony and tedium. In this way, globalization has led to a mix of cultures, leading to a loss of conventional ideas and individualism.
Conclusion
In my view, by learning more about a vast range of cultures (i.e. foods, traditions, customs, entertainment, etc.), individuals have the potential to expand their worldviews and gain an appreciation of foreign lifestyles. Thus, the advantages handily outweigh the drawbacks and without corporate or cultural links between nations, we would have dismal and dull lifestyles.
